e-CON is an emergency contraceptive pill that prevents unwanted pregnancy. When taken before a woman has ovulated, ECPs prevent the release of an egg from the ovary or delays its release by 5 to 7 days. e – CON is effective, however, for up to 120 hrs (five days) after unprotected sex, if taken before 72 hours, protection is proved to be safe. Timely access is important because the sooner the woman takes e-CON, the more effective it is. Nevertheless, e-CON does not work if a woman is already pregnant. Available over the counter in medical shops, e-CON has an MRP of Rs. 50.
